	Profession Skate Fittings I stongly believe that figure skates should be fit by a professional that is willing to spend some time with you, and explain how the boot should fit & feel. I handle all of my figure skate fittings by appointment only. If you live the metro Detroit area, please feel free to call for an appointment (586.731.9350). On an average, I'll spend 45 minutes to 1 hour with you for your fitting. You will need to have your toe nails filed, a pair of tights, or whatever you will be skating in, and your most recent pair of figure skates. When purchasing your first pair of figure skates, please keep in mind that you will need to find a pair of boots that fit you properly. Figure skates that do not fit can cause pain in the ball of your foot and blisters.If you get a boot that is too long or wide for you, you will not be able to get to the front of the boot or on the toe pick, your feet will be sliding around in the boot, causing loss of technique and blisters.If you get a boot that is too short or narrow for you,your toes will be cramped and you will lose circulation in your toes. When going for your fitting, you may want to file your toe nails. I find that you will have better control of the length of your nails by filing them. Do not cut them with toe nail clippers, this can cause cracking down into the nail bed, which can lead into ingrown toe nails. It is imperative that a figure skate fit the skater's foot properly. There are many things to keep in mind, such as, the length, width and style of the boot and blade. You and your coach should decide which level boot and blade is right for you.
